Mary Anne Buckley

Mary Anne Buckley teaches second grade at Victor Primary School in Victor, New York, and received her degree from Vermont College.

"I went to school at Vermont College to learn how to write children's books," she explains. "The program there was unique because it was based on John Dewey's work that students learn best when their interests are at the center of the learning. My professor and I discussed and wrote a course outline, syllabus, and assessments to match each standard required for my degree. While studying children's literature, I realized how much I wanted to be a direct partner with children as they discovered the joys of learning.

"Personally, I love children's humor, their wonder, and their honesty. Professionally, I love figuring out how to create lessons that go beyond the bare minimal facts -- lessons that engage and challenge myself and my students to connect learning to our lives."
