This package of two books includes Mark Overmeyer's, When Writing Workshop Isn't Working and What Student Writing Teaches Us.
In When Writing Workshop Isn't Working, Mark acknowledges that writing is hard work and that teaching it can be even harder. He eschews formulaic, program-based, one-size-fits-all answers for successful writing workshops; instead he presents multiple suggestions based on what works in real classrooms.
In What Student Writing Teaches Us, Mark shares his ideas about how teachers and students can use formative assessment effectively in all stages of the writing process. As he demonstrates through descriptions, anecdotes, and student samples, formative assessment requires meaningful planning: feedback through rubrics, checklists, conferences, and classroom discussion; and a partnership between student and teacher that allows students to help monitor their progress and set goals.
Mark Overmeyer
Mark is a native of Colorado, and received his education at the University of Northern Colorado, Colorado College, and University of Colorado at Denver. He has 16 years' of teaching experience, all in the Cherry Creek Schools in Denver, Colorado.
