Blog Watch: Debbie Miller preparing future educators
February 2008
Debbie Miller's book, Reading with Meaning, was published almost six years ago and it continues to inspire teachers today as they prepare to navigate a classroom full of buzzing kids.
In two blog entries this week, two education majors at Texas universities wrote about their thoughts and impressions as they read Debbie's book.
Kirby, a special education major in her senior year, wrote that she was inspired by Debbie's ideas on creating a community and trust in the classroom. She writes: "I found it so amazing that she was able to give her first graders so much credit. She really opened my eyes to the ways in which you can show your students that you trust them."

Sarah, also a senior and early childhood education major, writes: " 'Deb' also discusses how teachers need to expect 'big things' from themselves, not just the students. I feel that all teachers need to expect great things of themselves and never settle for just 'so-so' and 'ok'."
