Customized PD

Stenhouse works in partnership with our authors and our distributors across the country to create sustained PD programs that are customized to the needs of a school, district, region, or state. These programs range in length from a few months to a few years and can involve a range of components, including:

  • Author visits: A single Stenhouse author or several may visit the school or district during the course of year to work with teachers and administrators
  • Webinars with authors: Authors can "return" to the school or district in a virtual visit with teachers and administrators in a web meeting comprising an audio conference call with a Powerpoint presentation or file sharing (in which each participant can present files from their own computers, such as student work or lesson plans that all attendees can review together)
  • Books and videos: We compile a package of titles addressing a specific area of focus for a sustained course of study, such as nonfiction reading comprehension, literacy work stations, or writing workshop
  • Study guides: We create customized study guides that help a school or district run their own PD programs built around Stenhouse books, videos, and authors. The study guides provide activities, facilitation tips, and discussion questions for PD sessions in between author visits.

"I just downloaded the guide for Craft lessons as that is our focus for the next staff meeting. It is always good to get other ideas, especially when there are guiding questions already provided, so there is less prep. time for those of us who help with the P.D. It is great that these are available on line."

- Pam, Reading Recovery Teacher

"What an excellent resource you provide. They provide the backbone for our professional growth."

- Mary, Literacy Leader, MI
