Paul Heller
Paul retired from teaching in 2004, and he is now an accomplished and active playwright, director, and dramaturge.
From 1984 until 2004 he taught at a public high school in a small town in the Bay Area near San Francisco, Benicia High School. He taught English, drama, speech, and filmmaking.
He created professional development programs in resiliency for elementary teachers and teachers working with at-risk populations. Along the way, he directed about thirty high school musicals and plays, started a school within a school for low-performing sophomores, and developed classes in filmmaking and media literacy.
Paul currently leads a book club at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley, in which members read and see plays and then discuss these works with local directors, actors, and other theater professionals.
