Teaching Vocabulary & Grammar
Mechanics and word work can be integrated seamlessly into reader’s and writer’s workshop so that they help students make sense of texts and communicate their ideas in clear and creative ways. Stenhouse provides resources on teaching vocabulary, spelling and editing skills in individual conferences, targeted small group work, and whole-class craft lessons. Strategies range from the use of mentor texts to teach syntax, structure and style to activities focused on academic vocabulary that can be used across the curriculum.
