Dan Madigan

Dan Madigan was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, in 1949. His doctorate is from the University of Michigan. Dan founded and, until recently, was director of the Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology at Bowling Green State University. He currently is the interim director of the Scholarship of Engagement, a campuswide initiative to strengthen outreach with the external community.

As the director of CTLT for the past ten years, Dan was instrumental in establishing faculty learning communities that provided faculty with an opportunity to participate in an interdisciplinary forum that focused on sharing ideas and information about topics that promote professional growth in the areas of learning, teaching, and research. He also developed a staff that supports a variety of faculty development initiatives on topics such as assessment of student learning, tenure and promotion portfolios, active learning strategies, and the integration of technology into the classroom.

Dan's research interests are in the area of literacy, and he has published a book, numerous articles, and chapters in this area. His most recent literacy interests have expanded into the area of digital literacy —specifically, how the digital world is shaping a new kind of literacy that is necessary for the intellectual and social growth of the world's populations.
