Stenhouse Publishers started in 1993 with two employees in a one-room attic walk-up in York, Maine. That fall we published six titles.
Today, a dozen employees work in our offices overlooking Monument Square in the heart of Portland, Maine, editing, marketing and producing a catalogue of over 200 books and videos in a variety of formats.
Our aim is to publish books for and by teachers that reflect a philosophically consistent approach to teaching and learning that respects both teacher and learner.
Good practice is based on sound theory, and effective books for educators need to combine both theory and practice in an accessible manner.
If our philosophy appeals to you - as a reader or as an author - be sure to explore our web site. Over the past ten-plus years we have come to know a great many thoughtful and thought-provoking teachers who are involved in changing education; we want to continue building our network and gathering ideas so that we publish the books that meet educators' needs.
Stenhouse is part of Highlights for Children and a division of their subsidiary Teachers' Publishing Group.
